Scoliosis develops quickly, and how early it is caught decides how well it can be treated. The classic signs – a protruding shoulder blade or uneven shoulders – often appear too late. Dr Kluszczyński therefore developed an algorithm built on the measurements that reveal a curve earliest. The work received a distinction at the International Rehabilitation Symposium in Rzeszów in 2017.
What we measure
- back asymmetry – the angle of trunk rotation (ATR) with a scoliometer in the Adams test, also sitting
- sagittal curves – lumbar lordosis and thoracic kyphosis with an inclinometer
- functional leg length
- knee and foot alignment (valgus, varus)
- joint hypermobility on the Beighton scale
Depending on the results, the child follows one of four management paths – from monitoring and prevention to intensive treatment.
Principles of the treatment method
- balance of the pelvic girdle and its effect on the lumbar spine
- symmetry and stabilisation of the spine in three planes
- evening out signals from the receptors of the paraspinal structures (an original neurological massage)
- passive-active correction: a continuously adjusted brace and periodic Gravi Spine sessions
Measurements also use the Orthometer – an instrument designed by Dr Kluszczyński. More on treatment: Gravi Spine, Scoliosis treatment centre.
